She is set to receive the distinguished title of “Change Agent” in recognition of her efforts.
Univision has shared the news that Shakira, a renowned artist worldwide, will be acknowledged with the “Change Agent” award during the twentieth annual Premios Juventud. The event will be aired live from Puerto Rico’s José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum on Thursday, July 20, at 7:00 p.m.
The renowned Colombian musician and songwriter, who has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to music and philanthropy through the Fundación Pies Descalzos, will be celebrated at a special event airing on TeleOnce in Puerto Rico.
From the outset of her professional journey, Shakira has been actively involved in social causes. In 1997, she established the “Fundación Pies Descalzos” with a primary objective to aid underprivileged children and their families in Colombia by offering them equal access to education and a chance for a better life.
She started collaborating with the public system and the Department of Education in Colombia to prioritize the education of underprivileged children by offering access to information, technology, language, dance, and nutrition. Currently, “Fundación Pies Descalzos” not only assists children but also supports parents and teachers, creating job opportunities within the communities where their schools are situated.
Premios Juventud has been celebrating music, fashion, and pop culture for six years now. But it’s not just about entertainment – the awards show also recognizes individuals who are making a positive impact on their communities. These “Change Agents” include both artists and young Latinos who use their platform to promote social good. Past recipients of this recognition have included Jesse & Joy, Maluma, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Kany Garcia, the Jenni Rivera Foundation, Ricky Martin, Becky G, Pitbull, Juanpa Zurita, and Wisin y Yandel.
Shakira has garnered an impressive nine nominations for the upcoming awards night. She is a top contender in categories like “Best Song for my Ex”, “Girl Power”, “Best Pop/Urban Collaboration”, and “Artist Premios Juventud Femenina”, to name a few.
