Similar to her competitor Taylor Swift, Katy Perry appears to have a fondness for country music. During the 51st American Country Music Awards on Sunday evening, the songwriter opted to attend the Nashville event instead of the iHeartRadio Music Awards where her pop colleagues were gathered.
There’s no logical justification behind this choice except for the fact that Perry is a huge admirer of Dolly Parton, who was honored by her with the Tex Ritter Award, and enjoys dressing up in themes.
Perry rocked two Cowgirl Barbie-inspired outfits during her evening performance with the iconic Dolly Parton. She even did a duet with Parton, singing a medley of “Coat of Many Colors” and “Jolene”. The outfits were designed by Jeremy Scott, who is known for his love of motifs.
During her appearance on the red carpet, the singer who brought us “Fireworks” wore an eye-catching metallic blue skirt with a fringed hem, paired with a matching moto jacket. Underneath, she donned a cute pink crop top that complemented her outfit. To complete her look, she added hot pink earrings, a chunky cowhide-print belt, and cowboy boots in a light pink tint with the same pattern.
Perry got ready to perform in a jiffy, but her outfit was still full of energy and spunk, as if she were about to take on a raging bull. The singer opted for a vibrant pink silk shirtdress with yellow lapels and playful fringe details. She continued the color scheme with her matching boots and cinched her waist with a bold belt featuring a cowhide print. Meanwhile, Parton looked stunning in a colorful tuxedo blazer.
It’s worth mentioning that Perry rocked a Bump It hair accessory throughout the event, possibly inspired by Kacey Musgraves, the country music star famous for her ridiculously huge hair bump.
